Vaginal birth after cesarean

We have had many clients have successful vaginal births after prior surgical births. We will meet with you to discuss your medical history and will need to see your operative reports from your prior surgery. If currently in care with an OB/GYN, we will want to see your current records as well. An ultrasound to determine placental location is also necessary. In Texas you are also required to have one consultation with an Obstetrician or Perinatologist prior to your birth. If you are transferring in from an OB/GYN practice then you have met this requirement.

You are NOT a candidate for out of hospital birth after cesarean with our practice if you:

• have had a prior uterine rupture
• have a classical "T" or "J" shaped scar
• have a placenta previa (placenta covers the cervix)
• have had previous uterine surgery for GYN problems like fibroid removal
• have a transverse baby

If we proceed with care for you and your baby, you must know the following:

• We will have increased intermittent monitoring of you and your baby in labor
• We will recommend you have at least one session with a pelvic floor/physiotherapist during your pregnancy to assess your scar tissue
• We do not do inductions at home, there are limited things we can do holistically to encourage labor to start but inductions need to take place in a hospital with continuous monitoring, which we do not have access to at home
• We require an ultrasound at 18-22 weeks of pregnancy to determine placental location
• If we detect any signs or symptoms of uterine rupture, we WILL transfer your care immediately to the nearest medical facility by the quickest means possible, if you refuse this transfer will will activate EMS and you will be under their care upon their arrival and all care with our team will cease

For best chances of success, we  encourage you to take a childbirth education course and hire a doula if this is your first drug free vaginal birth.
