I'm a Certified Professional Midwife, Licensed Midwife with over 16 years of experience in midwifery. I started out as a doula in New Jersey in 2002 where I also taught Imagery Birthing classes and Happiest Baby on the Block classes. I began midwifery school in Media, PA in 2001 and completed 2 years of midwifery school for home birth midwives. I then embarked on my apprenticeship/internship journey. I apprenticed with several home birth midwives in my area and then went abroad to complete internships in Senegal, Africa and in the Philippines.
I opened my own home birth practice in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania in 2007. While in PA, I enjoyed a thriving practice where I served a rural population in the mountains, the Amish to the East of me, and a more urban population to the South. In 2020, we planned on moving to Wisconsin for my husband's work, but a certain pandemic happened which upended all of our plans. In 2021, we made the decision to move to the Austin area where I began work at Austin Area Birthing Center as a staff midwife while my husband took a transfer to a position in Round Rock. We love it here and are happy to call the Austin area home but I missed home birth and decided to open a practice to offer that option again. In 2023, we are also offering birth center birth with Lotus Community Birthing Center, where we have privileges. Lotus Community Birthing Center is in North Austin, just minutes away from North Austin Medical Center and located at the Sol Healing and Wellness Center.
In my free time I love sci-fi (I'm a big trekkie), video games, movies, musicals, DIY home improvements, and true crime/cult documentaries. My youngest is 16, home schooled, and we enjoy a true crime streaming fest anytime we can. While I'm not big on the outdoors except for leisurely activities, I do love the beach and until we moved here we went tent camping every summer. My husband and I had a big family, six children, most of whom are now adults so we are down to 3 in the house with us. My youngest son is finishing up his final months of home school.
Now I have returned to home birth, to what began my passion for maternal/infant health. I look forward to providing you with the personalized service that the midwives model of care entails. Currently we are seeing clients in our NW Austin office and in our Belton office. Call or e-mail me to set up a free consultation.
